Biography

Early years

Born in Jakarta in 1980, Ivan Lee began his school days as a quiet child who was often bullied by his classmates. Everything changed when he turned 13 years old and started to explore the world of martial arts by learning Tae Kwon Do, continuing to actively practice for around 10 years. That’s when he immersed himself in the martial arts world, becoming a more confident and courageous individual. He also tried to learn several other martial arts such as Karate, Silat, and Boxing, but none of them truly sparked his interest.

Wing Chun

Then, one day in 2013, he accidentally visited the Ip Man museum in Foshan, China, which sparked his interest in Wing Chun. Since then, he began studying Wing Chun from various teachers and sources until one day he realized that he wanted to share his knowledge with others, especially children and teenagers, so they wouldn’t experience bullying like he did and also for their character development. That’s when he started his Wing Chun School called Mind & Body Wing Chun. The name originates from his belief that martial arts should start from within, training the body as well as the mind. Under the guidance of Sifu Maurice Novoa, the highest certified Wing Chun master in Indonesia certified by 3 Grandmasters, Ivan has becoming renowned as a great Wing Chun instructor.
